Commentary On Education

I am a firm believer in education. I am a firm believer in theological education because our current American scene is being dominated by televangelism and megachurches —- neither of which has enough emphasis on theology. Rather, they are more into marketing a "popular message."
Our American populace is woefully theologically ignorant. Even denominational schools are woefully lacking in theological training. Doctrine is not theology. Theology can produce doctrine but doctrine does not produce theology.
Unless one studies theology, education will be lacking a proper foundation. Some believe philosophy to be adequate for a foundation for education. I taught philosophy as adjunct faculty for a community college. I majored in philosophy in my undergrad studies. I enjoy philosophy. Philosophy will not substitute for theology. Theology is several hundred years older than western philosophy —- which is generally what Americans study.
If one takes a serious look at education in the earliest days of our America, it will be obvious that theology played a major role in basic education. Many of the settlers and the founding fathers were committed to theology.
"Theo" is Greek for "god" and "ology" is Greek for "knowledge." Therefore, theology is a study to arrive at a knowledge of god. As Christians, as want to arrive at a knowledge of God —- just as our forbears.
I am a proponent of CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY through a study of Systematic Theology and Practical Theology.
